About Coventry
Some things you might not have know about Coventry
Coventry Cathedral
The city's medieval cathedral, St. Michael's, was largely destroyed during a Luftwaffe bombing raid in World War II (the Coventry Blitz) on November 14, 1940. However, the ruins of the old cathedral have been preserved next to the new Coventry Cathedral, which was completed in 1962 and designed by architect Sir Basil Spence.
Rebuilding Coventry
Coventry became a symbol of peace and reconciliation after the war, particularly due to the decision to rebuild the city and its cathedral. It has twinned with cities like Dresden, Germany, and Hiroshima, Japan, both of which also experienced heavy wartime destruction.
Universities
Coventry is home to Coventry University and the University of Warwick, both of which attract a large number of students from the UK and abroad. Warwick is a globally recognized institution, especially known for its research and innovation.
